I am extremely comfortable working with web development languages such as HTML & CSS and I enjoy incorporating the latest versions into my projects to produce leading edge work. jQuery is used in about 85% of all newer projects I take on and I love the ease-of-use and functionality it provides to users on all computing devices, whether it be a tablet, mobile device, or desktop computer. I enjoy tinkering with the output of dynamic languages such as PHP and MySQL in order to convey a unique and comforting experience to users. I predominantly speak English but have been educated in French throughout my younger school years and have been able to retain basic dialect.

Being a complete gadget geek, I have a variety of different devices that I use everyday for work and pleasure, such as an iPhone, Macbook Pro, and desktop computer. I enjoy using Photoshop for other uses such as photo enhancement, and I also use Soundbooth for music and video editing.

1. Analyze & Research

1. Analyze & Research

The most important part of the entire design & development process is the research involved. It is essential to analyze the intricate details of the project in order to produce the best work possible while meeting the specific needs of the client. Once I am confident in the strategy and direction of the project, I can then move on to the conceptual process of wireframing and designing.

2. Wireframe & Design

2. Wireframe & Design

The next step is the conceptual process including wireframing and basic mockup designs. I like to start with a very brief sketch of the entire site process from page to page. Next - drawing from my research on design styles, colour, flow, function, and usability - I provide a few refined design mockups to the client. Once we agree on certain elements through back and forth communication, I provide a finalized design.

3. Implement & Test

The third step is to take the design in a static image format and make it applicable on the web through coding languages. I adhere to standards compliant coding practices and provide the cleanest code that I can to ensure reduced load times and efficiency in all modern browsers. Once coding is complete, I test all areas of the site, including compatibility with older browsers and on mobile devices.

Finally, the last step is inspecting and evaluating the project. Just because a project has launched it does not mean the project is complete. After launching design elements can be refined according to how people are using the site. I take a look at entry points, links, content, SEO, and other optimization strategies to make sure that the people who visit are getting the best user experience imaginable.

About Me
What Makes Me What I Am

Matthew Jason Craig Matthew Jason Craig Matthew Jason Craig Matthew Jason Craig

As A Designer...

Design appeals to both my creative and emotional sides. I find myself somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to webdesign. I pride myself on producing work that is unique and aesthetically pleasing, while concurrently offering functionality and practicality.
I have the ability to conceptualize how certain areas of a design will function using interactive programming languages (such as jQuery) before the development process even begins. Additionally, I am able to produce web designs in many different styles, ranging from minimal to abstract, and I am able to establish a connection between colour and typography, ultimately conveying a distinctive feel within the design.

As A Developer...

Web development appeals to my mathematical and practical side. Development is somewhat like a jig-saw puzzle; taking a flat design, slicing it up and building it to function as it was intended is something that I truly enjoy taking on.
I understand that producing valid standards-compliant coding - and the effort it takes to do so - takes absolute dedication, however, it is essential to any website. I take great care in manually coding to ensure that I am consistently learning new ways to be more efficient, while at the same time, incorporating new technologies (such as CSS3 and HTML5) to ensure I am always developing my skills in web-based technology.
